5 Reasons to Choose OptiBond™ eXTRa Universal (and Simplify Your Life)

Most doctors are only all-too familiar with the downsides of using typical universal adhesives. They can cause post-operative sensitivity and patient discomfort. Inadequate etching efficacy leads to weaker adhesion. Limited penetration into dental tubules leads to limited bond durability and marginal integrity. From a workflow perspective, incompatibilities with cure materials give you fewer choices. And there can be confusion around using multiple bonding agents or auxiliary products.

Fortunately, there’s a simple solution to these challenges, found in a single and consistent adhesive system. Recognized as the gold standard for adhesion, OptiBond eXTRa Universal delivers the highest bond strength while simplifying procedures. If you’re frustrated with your current universal adhesive and are seeking a simpler way to ensure a stronger and consistent bond, then take a look at these five convincing reasons to make the switch to OptiBond eXTRa Universal.

1. Outstanding Bond Strength

OptiBond eXTRa Universal uses a patented GPDM Monomer and Ternary Solvent System technology to create a cross-linking covalent bond that delivers the highest mechanical and chemical bond strength to the tooth structure and resin material. What’s more, OptiBond eXTRa Universal’s proprietary Ternary Solvent System combines water, acetone and ethanol for enhanced enamel etching, longer shelf-life stability, and a less technique-sensitive application that delivers a more reliable bond.

Compared to competitors, you’ll see that OptiBond eXTRa outperforms other universal adhesives in direct and indirect bond strength.

2. Simplified Steps and Inventory

Slim down your inventory and your procedural steps. OptiBond eXTRa Universal provides outstanding bond strength with all surfaces and substrates for both direct and indirect restorations, as well as all resin cements and core build-up materials — without the need for dual cure activators, silane, primers or other auxiliary products.

3. Work the Way You Want

You’ve perfected your cementation technique. So why change it? With OptiBond eXTRa Universal, you have the freedom and flexibility to continue using your preferred protocol, all with a single adhesive system. No more wondering whether you’ll need multiple bonding agents or auxiliary products such as Dual Cure Activators. Whether the application is direct or indirect, you choose the technique that best meets the need and your preferences.

4. Best of Both Worlds

OptiBond eXTRa Universal does two jobs in one adhesive. When initially applied as a primer on the tooth, OptiBond eXTRa Universal Primer provides a very low-pH and hydrophilic properties that effectively etch the enamel and deeply penetrate to seal the tooth. This is crucial to prevent post-op sensitivity, stress-induced shrinkage, and gap formations.

After the primer comes the adhesive layer. For restorations, OptiBond eXTRa Universal Adhesive features a pretty neutral pH and hydrophobic qualities repel water to promote co-polymerization with resin. This results in fewer gap formations while enhancing the strength of the cured resin, while creating outstanding compatibility with virtually all types of cements, composites and core build-up materials and eliminating the need for any auxiliary product.

“What I like about OptiBond eXTRa, is that it keeps the science separate…I believe the strongest bond you can get in adhesive dentistry comes from a 2-bottle system.”

5. Total Dark-Cure Compatibility

When using OptiBond eXTRa Universal and the NX3 cement with a redox initiator system, the redox does the curing — saving you the time of light curing the material.

For applications that require a substrate that cannot be penetrated by light, simply add OptiBond eXTRa Universal to the tooth and crown, extrude cement into the crown, and seal it all together. The cement then activates the bonding agent’s polymerization. No other light-cure adhesive system can claim total dark-cure compatibility.
